Candlemas Cookies
Ingredients:
- 6 cups flour
- 5 tablespoons butter (cut into pieces and softened)
- 1 2/3 cups superfine sugar
- 2 teaspoons lemon peel (grated)
- 2 teaspoons orange flower water
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup water
Directions
Put the flour on a work surface, make a well in the center, and in the well, put the butter, sugar, lemon peel, orange flower water, eggs and water. Knead everything together to form a smooth dough.
Flour the work surface, divide the dough into 10 pieces and roll each piece onto a cylinder about ½ inch in diameter. Cut each piece into a boat shape, pointed on both ends. Place the cookies on a buttered baking sheet and allow them to rest for two hours.
Bake in a preheated 400° F oven for 15 minutes.
These cookies keep a long time in an airtight container.
